Subject: “Act Now Trust Announces Aranyam: the 2nd
International Film Festival on Environment and Wildlife.”
Act Now trust will be organizing its 2nd
International Environment and Film Festival – RANYAM 2007 on the 5th,
6th, 7th of October 07’ at Gurunanak Bhavan, Vasanth
Nagar, Bangalore. The Festival is supported by Wildscreen-UK, Karnataka forest department
(Aranya Bhavan), Karnataka state Pollution control board, Bangalore metro rail corporation, Vodafone
essar and jungle lodges and resorts.
To acknowledge the work of regional filmmakers the festival
will kick start with the screening of award winning film Wild Dog Diaries by
krupakar Senani and Episode Coorg by Rita Banerji on the 5th of October
at 5.30 PM.
The second day of the festival will focus on ‘climate chaos’
In India and around the world. These movies
will portray the consequences of global warming around the world.
The final day of the festival comes under the banner name “wild
Spectrum”. These movies will showcase the diversity of our unique wildlife and
also show the disastrous effect of human encroachment on their lives.
As part of the festival there will be interactive programs
to provoke involvement from the public on issues concerning the environment and
wildlife and how we as humans could make a difference. The details of the
program are as follows:-
Workshop on "RTI for
Environment and Wildlife" on 7th October at 11.00 am
Act Now RTI trainer will be
conducting a workshop on how to use RTI to aid our environment. Workshop
includes Hands on with sample applications, case studies, how to check violation of the EP Act or Wildlife
Protection Act or Forest Act and following it up. It will also cover areas like
Urban Wildlife, Exotic species, project tiger, etc to ensure accountability and
transparency in the working of our Governments.
Panel Discussion
A panel discussion on “Climate
change and Bangalore:
Can Bangalore be a carbon neutral city?
The Panelist include Dr.
Chanakya from Indian Institute of Science, P Parthasarathy – founder E
parisara, Representatives from the media, civil society and the IT industry.
The theme of the panel
include : Role of Civil Society- Struggle to balance a fragile eco-system with
in context to unplanned growth/development, Alternative energy consumption,
Media’s role in environmental issues, Technological innovation and
sustainability, E waste management etc.
The panel discussion will
start at 6 PM on
the 6th of October
Wildlife Photography Exhibition
A unique exhibition of
camera trapped images showcasing Application of Technology for Conservation
and Wildlife Studies by The Centre for Electronics Design and Technology
(CEDT), IISC Bangalore.
On a Trail with Ants
A presentation by Ajay
Narendara and Sunil Kumar M, Authors of on a trail with Ants- a handbook of the
Ants of Peninsular India. This is the first ever detailed study of the insect
in India.
