The rate at which the natural wealth is being plundered today is having serious repercussions. Today in the name of development the forests and wildlife are disappearing at a very fast pace. Does this have an affect on our lives?? It needs to be told to one and all. If you look at one side we are having serious water problem in the city. But do we know from where water is coming??? For us to have water, we need forests. In Kannada there is an old saying “if there is tiger in the forest, the village will get water”. Today there are very few tigers, so there is no water, as simple as that. The elephants, the tigers and the other wild animals today are slowly dwindling in numbers and soon will become extinct. Man’s greed for more has resulted in extinction of other species. What better time to address the seriousness of this issue than the wildlife week.
Partnerships. The festival is about bringing people together, behind the scenes and in the audience. While the project will be consumer run, the organizing will also involve students & professionals who will share their skills, and sponsors who will contribute their resources. The event itself will provide a setting, where people regardless of their life experience get together, laugh together, cry together and exchange ideas as an audience. Public education. The festival creates several opportunities to educate people about Nature, Wildlife, environment & eco travel:
Professional Education. Our hope is that environment & wildlife professionals will participate not just as experts but to learn with the rest of the audience. Wildlife has not only mythologized people, but also the realm of nature and the role of wildlife organisations. From film examples and from panels including people who have experienced the wilderness and through their ramifications we hope to explore perspectives that will challenge "expert" thinking and current wildlife threat assumptions. Consumer opportunities. The festival will provide opportunities to both consumers of eco tourism services and conservation organisation to work together on the event organizing and program delivery. Further consumer opportunities will be created as the festival promotes consumer-produced arts and entertainment and a forum for educational materials and presentations. The festival will also be video recorded by a team of consumers with an interest and talent in wildlife, environment & eco tour education. Entertainment. While conventional workshops and forums are useful in educating people who will attend workshops and forums, a festival will be educational to people who like to go to movies. The festival's educational goals will be effective because of the wide range of medium in entertaining and will attract the general public. Goal.Through this festival the people of Bangalore will take ownership (in spirit) of our own backyards and help these animals by adopting at least a 100 wild captive animals through funds raised from this festival. |
